Third Century ushers in the largest transformation in Colgate’s history.

Our first century was spent building the foundations of a university. Our second was dedicated to the development of traditions and essential elements of distinction. Success in our third century hinges on our capacity to advance those hallmarks on the national and international stages.

We do this in the same way we have always pursued excellence: as a community.

Dear Members of the Colgate Community,

I write to announce the launch of the next phase of the Colgate Commitment, the University’s long-term initiative to increase student access and affordability, supporting Colgate’s efforts to recruit the most talented students. This initiative, first launched in 2020, is an essential piece of Colgate’s Third-Century Plan. Its expansion reflects Colgate’s continued pursuit of the robust future that the Plan sets forth.

The Third-Century Plan is continually monitored by the Board, administration, and faculty to measure progress against its goals and to show effort applied in service of its initiatives. Status reports provide annual updates against the plan for the University community.

The Third-Century Plan is comprehensive, looking not to favor one aspect of University life, but to bring to each of the fundamental areas of Colgate greater levels of support and accomplishment. It compels the University to seek to attain the highest levels of expression in each endeavor it undertakes.

Colgate University looks toward its third century with both pride and a sense of possibility.

The Third-Century Plan represents the largest and most important transformation in the history of Colgate. It will both complete our physical campus and fully realize our potential to become one of the great institutions in the nation — and, perhaps, one of the most important undergraduate colleges in the country.

Colgate received more than $72.5 million in support from 14,793 alumni, students, family members, and friends during the 2021–2022 fiscal year.
